Donna Cowen is a talented designer who has cut her teeth in the Film and TV industry. She is a graduate from Melbourne University, who completed her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she received a degree in Dramatic Art, majoring in Costume Design. Six years of consistent employment in local television drama saw her designing everything from period costumes through to contemporary collections. She quickly came to appreciate that clothing was just a part of the finished “look” and it was often the accessories that made the difference. It wasn’t always possible to source quite the right pieces of jewellery and this sparked an interest in her creating her own.
Armed with creative talent – and a set of jewellery making tools, Donna’s designs emerged into a very distinctive wearable art form. People admired her jewellery and began asking where they could buy it. It was not long before she was making custom pieces and marketing them under the Nashi label.
Then came the perfect collaboration. Donna loves working with metal – and she also loves the much-admired Don Sheil tableware she uses at home. An approach was made to Mark Sheil and Donna has now designed the first ever Nashi range for Don Sheil Australia. Maintaining all the integrity of Don Sheil work, each piece is hand made and carries the Don Sheil signature denoting its originality and authenticity. Unlike silver, this beautiful jewellery will never need polishing; will never tarnish; is lightweight and will retain its lustrous appearance always.
Elegant, contemporary and timeless, the partnership between Donna Cowen and Don Sheil has resulted in statement pieces of jewellery showcasing the best of Australian design and making.
