Faulkner – Woollen Weave
Handwoven textiles combine visual beauty in a very tactile medium – the challenge is to combine with all their variety of colour, textures and thicknesses with various fibre types and create something unique. To this end Kay has used her highly developed sense of colour and creative eye to produce a practical art work that can be worn. So soft and light are her shawls and scarves, that you hardly notice you are wearing any accessory but secure in the fact that people will notice you are wearing a piece of fine art work.
The yarns Kay used are often hand dyed by her to create the exact colour desired. She then weaves her pieces on an 8 shaft floor loom – this kind of weaving is very labour intensive and time consuming but the end result is a fine woven article.
Kay has been a proffessional weaver for many years and has exhibited her work throughout Queensland and is much sought after, our Museum and several other places have acquired her works for permanent display and has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions.
