The Kindal Kindal Bowl is part of a series of bowls made from recycled macadamia nut shell, hand-rubbed with macadamia oil, with a polished polyester interior. The macadamia nut is native to the East Coast of Australia, and has been known to Indigenous Australians as Bauple Nut, Burrawang and Kindal Kindal. The Indigenous Australians survived on ‘Kindal Kindal’ and other Australian bush delights for thousands of years. Inspired by the macadamia nut shell’s natural state, the exterior is a smooth satin finish – hand rubbed with macadamia oil, whilst the inside is polished to a mirror gloss finish.
First designed for the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Kindal Kindal (or Askew bowl) spins before settling at an angle. The bowl weighs 350gms and is 14cm in Diameter and 6.5cm high. The Kindal Kindal is $125.00 and comes in a large range of colours.
Husque bowls are made locally in Brisbane using recycled Australian macadamia nut shells that would normally go to landfill after the macadamia kernels are removed. The discarded shells are milled into fine particles, melded with a polymer, and the final product is formed into beautiful and useful objects. Inspired by the natural state of the macadamia shell the exterior boasts a soft satin finish in contrast to the interior which is a coloured mirror polished finish. As an innovative material, Husque brings together the iconic macadamia nut, the principles of recycling, and the ingenuity of Australian design. The Husque bowl won the 2003 Lord Mayors prize for best entry in the Australian Memento Awards and is a favourite and genuine design piece for its natural material, aesthetic shape and practical size; perfect for the home or office. The Husque compound is made from milled Macadamia shells, a primary agricultural by-product, and a polymer to form a moldable compound that is distinctly Australian.
To pay homage to the place of origin, Husque’s name is derived from the word husk, replacing the ‘k’ with ‘que’ to include the first three letters of Queensland.
Husque vessels is food safe and ideal as a serving bowl BUT should only be used with cold foods – they are not suitable for the dishwasher and are very easy to keep clean by wiping over and giving a good rub with macadamia or olive oil or use warm soapy water.
